Pages and Word for Mac crash when I try to use my Okidata B411dn

After I installed Sierra, I could no longer use my Okidata B411bn printer with Pages. Whenever I tried to print from Pages requesting it use that printer rather than the Canon (my default), it crashed. This has gone on for MONTHS now. In addition to Sierra screwing up my printing, my Word for Mac 2008 left a blank ghost image on the screen causing me to have to close Word. The problem seemed to with .doc documents and not with .docx documents, therefore, was a problem with old software. SO, I upgraded to the latest Word for Mac. Now, Word for Mac also crashes whenever I try to print from the Okidata B411bn. This morning, I removed then reinstalled the printer driver. The text pages printed beautifully, but I still can't print a document from the Okidata unless its a PDF or I print directly from the web.

APPLE, THIS IS YOUR PROBLEM. FIX IT! If the problem is Oki, then work it out between you.

The last printer driver for the B411dn monochrome (pcl5/6 emulation) laser printer released by Oki is for OS X Yosemite on 2015-07-14. There is no assurance that this old driver software will work in El Capitan, or macOS Sierra, and this printer has been discontinued by Oki. The printer model is not among the supported printers by Gutenprint, or Foomatic either.

This is not an Apple issue, when the printer manufacturer discontinues a printer and its driver support. The printer will likely work fine on Windows.

1) volunteer forum. Apple does not come here. If you want to take it up with Apple go to

www.apple.com/feedback

2) Oki is solely responsible for their own products. If they fail to make a working driver for the OS either ask them to fix it or stop buying their printers.

you can reset the OS X printer services through here

but if Oki is not offering drivers for your printer in OS X 10.12 thats something you need to take exclusively with Oki.

3) Word is a Microsoft product, that not an Apple company either. Again, they have offered a solution, it's Office 2008 is no longer supported in OS X 10.12, the current version is office is 8 years ahead of the software you are using and office 2008 is entirely depreciated at this time. Use at your own risk.

4) Apple suggests you backup before performing an upgrade. If you failed to do so and the framework in OS X made your 3rd party HW and SW incompatible either roll back to an OS that did work, or upgrade your no-longer-working 3rd party tools. Apple did provide a fix, it was this. If you failed to do that don't expect Apple to fix other developers software that those developers wont support any longer after you chose them yourself.
