I am trying to figure out how to get the backspace to delete a whole word at a time as is possible on OS X when you hold down a certain modifer (ctrl, I think?).
Is this possible?

Hmm, I'm not sure I understand what you mean, as there are other "key commands" such as cmd-[left|right| to skip to the beginning or end of the line. So why not word-wise backspace?

Hi. Demo was referring to the built-in software keyboard, while you are asking about a hardware keyboard, possibly the Smart Keyboard for the iPad Pro. As you read in the link you posted, you hold the Command key to see the shortcuts supported by the app you're using.
As Diana explained, that article is talking about the Apple Smart Keyboard. You didn't specify that you were using a hardware keyboard.
There are some apps that support key commands, but the iOS built in virtual keyboard does not, as I stated in my first post.

I can see that the keyboard shortcuts cheatsheet provides app-specific shortcuts, which is helpful. I wonder if what I am asking for could actually be a global shortcut defined in the os, and applicable to all textedit widgets in every app?
The only way to do that is by selecting the entire word. There are no key commands in iOS using the built in virtual keyboard.
