Working area cropped on external screen.

I'm working on a late 2016 MBP 15" connected to a 25" Eizo screen through HDMI with an Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport-Adapter. Now ever since I started using this laptop there's about an inch of black space at the top and bottom of my external screen, which wasn't there when I used my Mid-2014 MBP's built-in HDMI input.

I've tried scaling resolution up and down in the System Preferences, to no avail. Does anybody know how to fix this? Grateful for any help!

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2016), macOS Sierra (10.12.3), Eizo CS240

When you open System Preferences->Displays and choose "Scaled" instead of "Default for display" in the external monitor, do you see different possible resolutions - e.g. 1920x1080, 1600x900 or so - or just the same type of choices as for the internal - e.g. "larger text" or "more space" ?

Yup, I do get different resolutions; 1080p, 1080i, 720p & 1600x900. And all of them have the same issue with a cropped screen.

Are you mirroring your internal display (two displays showing the same image) or using the external display as "extended desktop"?

I am using it as an extended desktop, so no mirroring. Now when I do try mirroring, I notice the same problem occurs on my laptop screen as well.

If you hold down the option key and click on "Scaled", do you get more options? And if so, do any of those work to use the full display? Barring that, maybe resetting NVRAM and/or SMC will help.
