Carplay maps orientation

I have looked all over and can't find an answer, when carplay first starts and no destination has been entered the indicator on the map stays correct (not orienting true north) Once I have entered a destination the map indicator orients true north, so if I'm traveling south the indicator is not pointing up but down and all my directions on the map are now backwards. I have tried using the orientation indicator setting on the homepage (next to the 3D setting) turning it on and off but can't get this corrected. It's not my phone, I can use maps on my phone and this isn't an issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated, it's driving me crazy.
