cannot access keypad to enter address

Recently, the keypad will not show up when I go to the search area on MAPS. I get recent searches and icons for restaurants, etc., but I cannot get the keyboard to open. I have double clicked on the search area, held it down for a few seconds, and everything else that I can think of. I am sure that it is simple, but I am baffled. Can anyone help?
