This happens repeatedly on my iPhone 6s, but never on my iPad air2. If I reboot my phone the problem goes away temporarily, but eventually comes back. Any ideas for a permanent more sustainable fix other than rebooting the phone?
Picked up a used 6s plus and when I push the dictation button for voice to text, it takes a few seconds before it registers my voice. It will beep right away as soon as I press the microphone button, but if I speak right away it does not pick up the first one or two words that I say. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to fix this?

Hello mickeddie,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
I understand from your post that when you push the dictation button for voice to text there is a delay when recognizing that you are speaking. First, use the steps from the article below to determine if there are any issues with the microphones on your iPhone:
Get help with the microphones on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
If the microphones are working properly, I would then restart your iPhone and continue to test for the issue.
Best Regards.
