No microphone when using Bluetooth?

If my phone is linked via Bluetooth to either my house speaker or in car stereo, a call can come through, be answered and I can hear the other person through the speakers but they can't hear me unless I disconnect from Bluetooth? Any ideas?

You could try going to Settings > Bluetooth and tap the blue i next to the bluetooth devices listed and tap Forget This Device for each of the devices that you have a issue with.

Then turn off or disable bluetooth on your iPhone and do a force restart of your iPhone using the steps below.

  • On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Volume Down buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
  • On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

Allow the iPhone to reboot then enable bluetooth again and pair with each device you have the issues with and test to see if the issue has been resolved.

If the above steps do not help then you could contact Apple Support and have a chat with them to see if they can assist.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately both those links only refer to problems with connecting and playing audio via Bluetooth, nothing about outgoing audio, the microphone. My phone has no issue connecting and playing music etc, it's just on calls the other person can't hear me. I am a little confused tho, when a call comes through via bluetooth, which one picks up you're voice, the phone or bluetooth device? This is why I originally thought the issue was with the mic in my stereo, although it was bought new and Halfords were just as confused as me, but now I know the same thing happens when linked to my home speaker, which has a microphone that I know works and I had my phone in my hand when I answered and the callers voice came through the speaker, as it does in the car, but they couldn't hear anything?! It's so frustrating especially in the car!
