Why did my iphone 7 shut down after being fully charged?

Hi, about four months ago I bought a new Iphone 7 which worked just fine. However yesterday , my iphone turned off after being fully charged and then I had to recharge it. I would like to know if this bug is a software isuue or a bug at the phone itself ?
