Can't play downloaded Sky Go movies in airplane mode

I have downloaded a couple of movies on my Sky Go app, and just before we went on the plane I even started watching them both for a minute of two before switching off my iPad. Then, once on the plane and in airplane mode, when I press the "watch" button to watch the movie the whole Sky Go app just shuts down. I've tried deleting the app and re-installing but that did not work. All very frustrating. Anyone had similar problems that they've managed to fix?

PS My husbands slightly newer iPad works fine 😟
