I had 3 new Macbook Pro's in 3 weeks. Fault after fault.

Where to start?

I was convinced by a friend that the new Macbook pro was the way to go. I had never had a mac in my life. So I bought the Macbook pro 13 in spacegrey 256gb 2016 model.

The first mac had excessive backlight bleed (story of my life)

So the next day I returned it where they exchanged it for me. So onto the 2nd one!

- This one had also small backlight bleeding. Not the worst. However everytime I would open the lid from its sleep mode the macbook would flicker. It then started to make popping sounds from both left and right speakers!!

Yup you guessed it! Back for a 3rd new macbook pro....Can you guess how this story ends?

This was brutal for someone who had never had a macbook to get 3 in 3 weeks....

The third one was by far the worst backlight bleed I have ever seen on a laptop. You might be wondering? Is this guy mistaking backlight bleed for IPS glow? Oh boy that's what I was hoping but nope. This was "genuine backlight bleed" as APPLE put it to me... so the question was asked to myself. Would you go for a 4th NEW macbook pro?

Definitely not. I took my refund and ran. I am even writing this off a friends laptop as I continue to research what the **** is going on...

My question is this. Could it have been a bad batch? All three of these macbooks have come from the same store....and I am fairly sure I have been the owner of all of the stock they had....I have cut this story short but should I give it another go maybe from a different store?

I have over 15 Apple personal devices. Most recently I had an issue with an iPhone that was blamed on beta software that the "Genius" recommended I install. It was the beta and after working with them, they finally replaced the battery in a faulty iPhone 6 and guess what, it works great now. I am now on my second 15 inch Macbook Pro with Touchbar and the best the "Geniuses" can do is tell me its because of the fact I am running a beta version of their software. After returning the first one because of a battery issue, the second one had the same problem. I was told again by a "Genius" to try out the beta because of the safari issue, etc. Well, that didn't work. I am now on my second >$3K MacBook pro and am regretting every minute of it. My late 2015 was a workhorse and continues to be. The new MacBook Pro with touchbar, based on my experience and that of many, many, many blogs should be avoided. Apple got to cute with the new look and feel and forgot that power users actually need sustainable battery life. If Chrome causes a Macbook Pro to drain in 2 hours, then I can only imagine what power users of video editing and music software have to go through. This is unacceptable and asking me to spend another 4+ hours trying to get my computer back to factory after being told to upgrade to the beta is insane. I hope others have a better experience with their MacBook Pro.

Lee. I feel you. I am literally writing this off my mothers spare HP laptop which to this day yeah may have a loud fan but guess what? Its durable and is doing the job. Wish I could say that of the last 3 macbook pros I have had in my hands. They all suffered weird problems. One problem which I didnt mention was sometimes on sleep the battery would consume 10% in 6 hours. Or sometimes I would see the battery indicator percentage at 56% close the lid. Open it up 30 minutes later to 57%. How is that even possible? I know many people with the 2013 pro retina macbook pro and they seem durable and a workhorse as you said. It almost feels like now its coming down to a fashion statement more then a quality statement. Fairly pathetic if you ask me. I will continue to push this problem and I hope you do too. For the chrome problem...my oh my I know exactly what you mean. up to 10 hours battery life? Pfft yeah sure more like 4 hours. Too bad I couldnt even get through an entire battery drain because I only had it in my hand for a day at a time.

Hey macjack thanks for replying. Well get this. The last one was opened infront of me. The screen flickered and the rep said to me " oh thats normal" its the first time its turning on...so I was like yeah all good. took it home! POW bleeding on all corners. Some so much it left black spots around the bleed. Took it back the next day ( they were closed 45 mins after the day i got it) and a different guy tested and was just in awe at how bad it was....

I just you know am flat atm because I was so worked up about looking forward to a new "consistent" laptop and well down I go lol!

Because the system is predicting the percentage based on processes being used at any given time, so after coming out of Sleep, yes it would be more. If you start quitting open applications and/or decreasing panel brightness and/or keyboard lighting, you will see the percentage go up in real time.

I really feel you. I'm currently on my fourth MacBook Pro 13" 2017 edition. The first one had a decent screen but a very loose keyboard. I got it replaced in the store I bought it. The second device had a nice keyboard with firm keys as you would expect of a notebook with that price. But the screen had an uneven backlight. So I got it replaced a second time - slightly annoyed. The third one had severe IPS glow. Got it exchanged, too. So now my fourth and last MacBook arrived. All seemed fine until I watched a picture with black background. Severe backlight bleed! I'm done with this company, I think. Call me picky, but for a high amount of money you can expect high quality.
