Time Capsule and airport express

Hi

I have Time Capsule purchased in USA in 2011 model A1409 and I've run this fine in the UK. In 2016 I moved home and purchased Airport express in the UK to extend the wifi, it worked fine until late 2016 when there was an update to both. Since then the airport express just blinks orange none stop. If I plug it directly into the router its fine. Any thoughts?

Reset the AirPort Express back to factory default settings, and then set it up again. Same issue?

If you want the Express to extend the network wirelessly, do NOT connect the Express to the Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet connection.

If the Express will be permanently connected to the Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet cable connection, that connection must be established......before.....you reconfigure the AirPort Express.

If you are still having issues.....we need more information from you about what device that you are using to administer the AirPort Express.....a Mac? An iPhone / iPad? a PC? If it is a Mac, what operating system are you using?

If you are using wireless extend.. remember US and UK have different rules and different channels.

What you might need to do is set the TC to specific allowed channel in the UK so your Express can connect to it.

I also found the latest firmware made this task harder than before.. you actually need to quit and restart the airport utility after any changes.. as it simply will not display changes correctly.

Temporarily, power off the AirPort Express

Connect your MacBook to the wireless from the Time Capsule for a few minutes and then move it to the area where the AirPort Express is located

Hold down the option key while you click on the WiFi menu at the top of the screen on your Mac

Post back with the information that you see for:

Security

Channel

Country Code

Tx Rate

MCS Index

What do these numbers mean?

In a nutshell, they mean that you have a poor quality connection at the location where the numbers were recorded.

Move the AirPort Express closer to the Time Capsule. It should be no more than about half way between the Time Capsule and the general area where you need more wireless signal strength or coverage.

If you want to use the most secure setting for wireless security, change that to WPA2 Personal.
