Itunes not responding after waking up computer

Yeah this isn't a one-time thing, it happens every single time I wake up my computer. I leave iTunes open while putting it to sleep, and I find it frozen (with the beach ball cursor spinning forever). I'm sick of having to force quit and relaunch since my imac is an old one and closing/opening apps can be painful.

Just for the record, I use ethernet to wifi internet sharing so even if it goes to sleep the hard drives never stops spinning.

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), 7.1 Mid 2007

Greetings pianistemre2,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It seems like iTunes is freezing after you wake the computer from sleep. Depending on which version of iTunes you are running, one option you could try is to update iTunes to the latest version available. You could try to see if you can isolate the issue to being caused by other software running the in the background. If you boot the computer into safe mode, try putting it to sleep and waking it again, and seeing if the issue persists. I would recommend you read these articles and use them to help troubleshoot the issue.

Get the latest version of iTunes
Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac
Take care.
