Two Steam icons on dock. I click 1st and 2nd appears.

Hello Apple community!

I have a problem with my Mac Dock and I think it must be a bug or something.

Summary:

I have one Steam icon on my dock, it's an alias from the Apps folder, OR the launchpad (both). I click on it, and a second Steam icon shows up on the far right. I am pretty sure there is only supposed to be one icon, so what is wrong? This has only been going on for the past week or so. Before then, I had one icon, and when I clicked on it, it just showed a black dot underneath the icon. I don't believe there has been any updates to my OS since then, but I think it is possible that Steam has updated since then.

My attempted solution:

I removed the icon, and then I re-added it from the launchpad. Still the same thing happened.

I removed the new icon, and then re-added it from the applications folder. Still the same thing happened.

In addition, I have also restarted the computer and the problem persists.

P.S. I am using MacOS 10.12.1, as reported by my "About this Mac." I have no clue why the discussions board will not allow me to update my "product" to the correct version of MacOS.

MacBook Pro, iOS 10.2.1, Almost stock software.

Drag the Steam icon on the right to some other place in the Dock. It will stay there. Or, two-finger tap and choose Options > Keep in Dock.

Remove the other one.

OK: after I updated to MacOS 10.12.3, the links failed again and made a question mark. Your solution didn't work, and I attempted it multiple times, multiple ways, and also restarted the computer twice. Every time I restart the computer, the icon which worked before becomes a question mark.

I really think this is a bug. By the way, why is it that your solution actually worked in the first place (although I did not restart my computer to test it, before the update)? Is it a bug workaround or is it functioning as intended?

P.S., You're totally right about the product OS thing. I was in iOS by mistake 😟.
