M$ Outlook and Cobian Backup stopped working with mac.com

Hi All,

I have a customer with an Mac, and iPhone, and a Windows 7 laptop. Yesterday, she traded in her iPhone for a new one. Her mac.com iMap email works fine on both the Mac and the new iPhone, but her Window 7 laptop's Outlook and Cobian Backup both stopped working. They both fail on her password. The customer did not change her password.

And I can not find mac.com's phone number.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Is there something likegMail's less secure apps and captcha that have to be satisfied?

Does mac.com's iMap limit the number of users to an account?

Many thanks,

-T

Did you read the article I linked for you? This is 2 inches from the top of that article.

I have no idea what Cobain is, but if it not an app that can ask for a password and a verification code, it needs it's own app specific password.

Some apps will also respect the password+verification code, but the app specific password is more convenient.

By that I mean, on the one line given to you for a password, you enter the password PLUS the verification code.

So, password is Apple123! and verification code is 456789, you enter Apple123!456789 in the password box/field.

imac.com's phone number is the regular apple support phone number. Called tech support. They determined that the customer had run afoul of two factor authentication and had lost the pc as trusted device. So they had me install iCloud for PC. The customer is currently "waiting for approval" on the windows machine. Is has been 20 minutes so far. The eMail the tech said they were going to send with instructions never arrived either. I am tempted to reboot the pc, but ...

Now I am able to send mail with two factor off but not on. The pc is showing that it is a trusted device.

Ok... does this mean you went and created an app specific password and it does not work?

This has nothing to do with trusted devices. At all.

With 2FA, the Outlook client needs to get 2 things from the Apple mail server... a password and a verification code. Outlook has no ability to enter those 2 things or to even understand that there are 2 things required. The Apple mail server checks the password given, when it doesn't line up, the request for access gets refused.

This is why an app specific password is required.
