WORD docs opening without "chime" sound

Another esoteric problem. If I click on a WORD doc in the finder to open it or want to launch the program and/or the document from the Apple "Recent Items" menu the program and/or document open up silently.

However, if I open up the same document from within the already opened WORD program I hear that nice welcoming chime sound. I remember it being universal but maybe I am misremembering. Has it always been like this? I spoke with a nice Microsoft employee today but she had not a clue.

A system sound problem to go with my barking dog issue? 😟

Oh boy! I'm gonna get my first 10 points for answering:

The problem is:

There is no problem. My word does that as well. Its no error, its just that the MS Office developers didn't take the time to put the chime in when you open it off the desktop. (BTW when I was testing to see how the chime worked, my volume was all the way up ,I almost passed out form shock).

One sound problem down, one (dog) to go!

Amazing! 10 points for you! You should work for MS. Now why the nice woman over there didn't know this is beyond me. So, it works when you open it up from within WORD but not from the system - desktop/finder/recent items list.

Why can't they just add the darn thing? Seems simple. Or maybe it has to do somehow with interacting with the OS....

Thank you very much for solving this!
