Spilt Beer on Trackpad/Keyboard

I accidentally knocked about a few tablespoons of beer over my MacBook Pro last night (stupid, I know).

I immediately soaked it all up and used a professional cleaner to try and get in between all the keys and around the edges of the trackpad, but over the evening the trackpad had a mind of its own, the cursor was going everywhere and clicking things without me touching it. I kept trying to clean it from as best I could outside, and found that if I pushed the trackpad hard a few times the issue would be resolved for about 15 minutes before it would start moving again.

Overnight I turned it off and left it upside down. Today the mouse has been moving, but after pushing the trackpad a few more times its been okay for about an hour now.

The keyboard is working fine but you can hear and feel the stickiness underneath the keys.

Does anyone have any advice on how to go about safely cleaning this myself, and what to do if the trackpad continues to experience problems?

Thank you!

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)
