Got a scam robo call. Voicemail cannot be deleted. Keeps reappearing. Iphone seems unable to reset. Tried to erase all data to do a restore but iPhone failed to reset.

I have an iPhone 6 Plus. I recently received a scam robo call which left a message in voicemail. This message cannot be deleted. I've tried several times but it just pops back. I called Apple Support and the only solution proposed was to back up the phone and restore to factory settings. I have backed up my phone to my Mac but when I attempted to reset and erase everything all I got was the Apple logo and a progress bar which didn't move. I waited for 15 minutes and still there was nothing happening. I held the sleep wake button and home button until it came back up. Everything was still there including the scam robo call message which I can't get rid of. I did erase all recent calls but I cannot get rid of that message. Is there a way to fix this without getting a new phone?

I had this happen to me. I tried many fixes. Nothing worked, until I removed my SIM card. With the SIM card out, I ignored the message that piped up about the SIM card, rapidly deleted the 2 voicemails & cleared the deleted from the previously deleted page. It took 2 tries but I got rid of the 2 undeletable voicemails. When I put the sim card back in they were permanently gone.

To remove SIM card put a paperclip in the hole in the right side of the phone. Press hard and SIM card pops out next to that spot.

Try Recovery Mode:

Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes.

While your device is connected, force restart it: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home button for at least 10 seconds, and don't release when you see the Apple logo.

Keep holding until you see the recovery mode screen and wait for it to restore.

You may have to do the above more than once as recovery mode is difficult to get into.

Restore as New first and test it. Then restore from backup if desired. If the backup is corrupted it will likely bring back the issue.

Thanks for the tip - it worked great. After trying a number of other tips, this is the one that finally worked. Simply popped open the sim try, deleted the problem voicemail, cleared the "deleted voicemails" folder, cleared the "recents" call list and popped the sim tray back in. Finally gone!
