I have done restart and also unplugged all connections for a minute and then re powered. Restart makes the problem go back to 3 icons and no apps. Need to change region again to get some back. For example, I have Netflix and YouTube but not NBC or HBO.
Verified DNS settings. Nothing had changed on network, so odd that it started out of the blue. Only one network at home, so no easy means to test on another network. Anyone at Apple care to comment? I can find instances of this problem online dating back quite a while.
This is a user forum, you aren't going to get a response from Apple here. Network issues can come come at any time and without any changes done by the user. Yes there have been other instances, but the cause remains the same.
Did you try Ethernet?
You can see the current status of the network by getting a report from istumbler, netstumbler or similar. This will show signal strength, noise, nearby networks
You would be going to a different location to test on another network (preferably a controlled one like Apple's)
When you say the cause remains the same, are you saying it's a network issue? This seems odd that connection remains and it somehow only removes certain apps, can be fixed temporarily by changing location country, etc. I appreciate the feedback here but this seems like an odd way for some network issue to manifest itself out of the blue.
Re Ethernet. Have used with Ethernet to date. Set to wifi last night. No better. Will try back to hardwire tonight. May try hard reset of unit.
Yes, and it is a network issue. All of those 3rd party channels are sent via server, and when there is an issue with the connection they will be unavailable. Again, network issues can come at any time, and will manifest in any number of ways.
The date/time is set via server, it would still be related to the network if it is unable to contact said server. It wouldn't be related to daylight savings. Usually it is related to the router port 123 not being open or blocked.
You could try restarting your Apple TV if you have not already done so using the steps supplied in the Apple Support article linked below.
I have not done full reset but search results of same issue suggested that did not fix it either.
That will happen when it's having an issue with the network connection.
Make sure DNS is set to auto (settings - general - network)
If on wifi try ethernet
Test on another network
One other theory. Another thread suggested possible date/time issue with modem or network. Possible connection to last weekend being daylight savings?
So today the problem is just gone. Bizarre but OK. Thanks.
Glad to hear that the connection came back, if it happens again refer to the troubleshooting
