I would like to use airdrop to move pictures and notes from my iPhone to specific directories on my iMac but I can't find way to direct airdrop to use specific directories.

Unfortunately no. AirDropped files will be placed in your Downloads folder on your Mac. From there you can move them to whichever directory you want them in.

Not the answer I wanted but now I know to quit looking for a solution. It looks like my best solution is to clear the Downloads folder before I start transferring files. It will make it easier to find them once they are on my main computer.
