Which cameras are compatible with lightning to usb 3 adaptor

I have a Canon G10 and just bought the lightning to USB 3 adaptor so I can download photos from the camera to my ipad air 2. But when I connect the camera to the ipad the camera is not detected and so I cannot import. I just upgraded the ipad from the old generation 2 ipad and used to connect via a similar adaptor that was USB2 - 30pin and it worked fine. The new adaptor's manual says try the Apple support site for a list of supported cameras but after half an hour searching I cannot find anything. So can anyone help me please? If it is the camera that is the issue I cannot do anything about it as I use it for underwater photography and it would cost a small fortune to upgrade the camera/housing but should I have bought the USB2 adaptor or is there something else I could do (the shop assured me it was fully backwards compatible). Maybe a SD card reader would have been the way to go?

Sorted! This was just a stroke of luck, but I thought I would try again, this time with the optional lightning cable plugged into the second port which is for charging. This time it recognised the camera and opened the import window. Better still, the connection triggered an update to the adaptor to download & install and now it works without a need for the power-providing lightning cable.
