I have Yosemite and I am unable to determine the last login date of time of a local user on my Mac. I am using Console to try to search for the user name and I am surprised I get find the users name.
any ideas why this is missing?

When I execute your command I get a response as follows.

Might try searching by UIDs, like 501, 502, etc., Guest would be 201 by default.

Find Any File...

Search for files Modified between certain dates.
Hold Option or alt key when selecting Find to Find All.
Speaking from personal experience, the last(1) command has been on UNIX machines for decades, and is not âextra software.â UNIX is not AI, and you have to ask it for information, especially history information such as last login time stamps.
The majority of us that respond to these posts are the administrator of our own machines, and do not boot to a non-administrative account to test if a command requires administrative privilege.
That command doesn't work when running as a non- administrator but does work as administrator.

Launchpad : Other : Terminal.
# look at the manual page for last
$ man last
# look at all of the last 10 logins of user bartfast with most recent shown first
$ last -10 bartfast

If one were running accounting, then lastcomm could be used to see who was the last to run a specific command.

Yosemite is a Unix system and should be able to easily keep track of local logins without extra software. Do you know if the same condition exists for Seirra or El capitan?
