ipod clasic 5th generation

i have a ipod classic 5th generation, I accidently formatted it as fat 32 on windows and now it only shows up as a removable drive. i tried a friends windows 8.1 computer but the latest iTunes wont even recognize it, nothing shows up in iTunes when i plug it in. so i tried a older version of itunes. i tried both 10.7 and 11.0 and it gets almost done with the install but then it just says "rolling back action" and gives me an error. im trying to restore it too BTW. i have access to a windows 7 computer but it has administrative crap on it and wont let me install itunes on it. so i have a friend who has a mac mini but he is gone for the weekend and wont be back until sunday night. so what i am saying is how can i restore it in windows 8.1 with an older version of i tunes sense apple doesn't want itunes 12 to recognize an older ipod in order to force us to buy new ones. the ipod is also known as the video ipod ya know the first one to support playing videos and with a color screen. i know someone with a macbook pro and i will see if they can restore because apple might be more in favor of people who are dedicated to using their products.

See How to use disk mode on your iPod - Apple Support. Put the device in disk mode, connect to USB, launch iTunes. The device should show in iTunes and allow you to restore it. If it doesn't show in iTunes or Windows explorer try a different cable and/or check for fluff in the docking port.
