Why can't I see pics sent via iMessage any more?

Every time someone sends me an iMessage pic, the app on MacBook gives error message: your message can't be sent: ignore / retry / open messages. This has been happening for a week now. Pics are also no longer viewable in iMessage on iPhone 6S. Any insight out there?
