Photos stored twice

Hi there,

Are my photos stored twice on my MacBook?

Using the new storage utility on macOS the photos are shown once in Documents folder and once in the Photos folder with almost the same size.

Are the photos somehow taking up double space?

I read somewhere that the photos are linked from the photos library (which is stored in the documents folder) to the Photos app, but shouldn't macOS be able to detect this when checking the storage? For me it looks like that the Photos are taking up double space.

Also, the storage utility doesn't seem the show the space taken by macOS Sierra. Is this correct or is something corrupted?

I tried to find a related topic, but couldn't really find one.

Best regards.

😂Haha omg thank you Terence, for correcting me. I know clearly the difference between them.

The reason we(me and the questioner) call it Documents folder cause the Photo Library is classified as ‘Documents’ in Storage Manage.

And what confused us is the system calculated twice the storage of Photos. One is the Photos it self, left in the list. The other one is the Photo Library which is placed in ‘Documents’ in that page.

Sorry for the Chinese characters. It means Photo Library.

And if you are so kind to check it up on your Mac, you’ll see what I or the questioner confused.

It seems like the Photos in Documents folder is the stored place for Photos app, you can find it in Finder-Pictures

You seem to be confusing the Documents folder with the User Folder. What you're calling 'Finder-Pictures' is more fully:

HD/Users/Your Name/ Pictures

At the same location, (Your Name) there is also a Documents Folder

HD/Users/Your Name/ Documents

So, this:

the Photos in Documents folder is the stored place for Photos app

directly contradicts this:

you can find it in Finder-Pictures

By default, Photos stores its images in the Library in the Pictures Folder - HD/Users/Your Name/ Pictures. If images are turning up elsewhere that's something the user is doing.

Seems like you don't clearly know the difference between them, then.

The panel on the left is a list of shortcuts. It's not a column to be totalled. Nothing is counted twice.

I would point out tho, that if you only have 2.96 gigs available on that disk then you have a major problem and risk massive dataloss if you don't make space there and soon.
