Can't update to Sierra 10.12.3

Hi,

I have a mid 2011 MacBook Air (11") and I am running Sierra 10.12.1.

It seems I can't update to 10.12.3 and any recommendation is highly appreciated.

Auto update stucks in the end, apple logo won't go away. This doesn't change in manual update either. The computer never starts back again unless I use the time machine. Tried the SVC or ram resets but no cigar.

I can't do the update by choosing the internet recovery either.

I know I may be forcing the limits of my mid 2011 macair ( 2 gigs of ram ) but it has become annoying to have it every now and then since the auto update never tired of trying...

Besides this issue, I'd also be glad for any recommendations regarding my system score below:

You can try updating from here, Download macOS Sierra 10.12.3 Combo Update, this will download to your Downloads folder then double-click to install.

2Gbs RAM is always going to be a problem, Apple does say 2GB is minimum but in reality 4GB is, more is always better. Alas you can't upgrade.

When you upgraded to Sierra did you check that your third party software was compatible with Sierra, perhaps there are updates available, check with the developers.

If you can trim down what software starts when you boot up it may help your situation.

Have a look in System Preferences>Users & Groups>LogIn Items.

You can also check to see if some of your third party apps are set to start at login by checking within their own Preferences.

Thank you Dialabrain, safe mode didn't work for me as well. Its happening only on the attempt of Sierra update, and I can only get it back with the time machine.

As I am not much of an expert to Mac OS i might have missed to remove some software properly which might run in the background.

What if I completely format the machine and try to set up Sierra from scratch? Although, still i don't know how to do that, i seems as a last resort to me...

Mar 20, 2017 2:58 PM in response to Eau Rouge

Thank you Eau Rouge,

I finally managed the update via the combo update. In the mean time, I tried to clear the boot up software as much as I can, I am still in trouble with the adobe ones but I am quite happy with the result now.

I really wish there was a chance to upgrade the ram but it seems like I am gonna keep with this little one for some more time at the moment 🙂

Can't update to Sierra 10.12.3
