No haptic feedback on 1st get apple watch when phone rings

I am suddenly getting no haptic feedback when my phone rings. It used to work fine, so I'm not sure what settings I have goofed up.

I have an iPhone 7 (the big one) and a 1st get Apple Watch. As a possibly related issue, I sometimes don't get visual/or haptic notifications on either device when I get a text. The notification is there if I open the phone and look at it, or pull down to see the notifications on my watch, but nothing actually happens to notify me on either until I look - they both just look turned off.

I often go to the library or other settings where I need to leave my phone and watch muted. What I want to have happen is for both my phone and my watch to vibrate/haptic feeback whenever I get a text or a phone call. I have the sound set all the way down to the mute end of the slider on both, and I have the mute button enabled on my phone.

I tried turning off wrist detection and turning it back on again (after turning off and on the watch), I made sure that neither have do not disturb turned on. I did a hard restart on the phone.

The phone does vibrate when I get a call, and I can SEE on the watch that I'm getting a call, but there is no haptic on my watch.

All help appreciated. No suggestion too stupid. I had to reset my phone and do a clean non-backup install because of a corruption issue when I got a new phone, and so it's entirely possible I just screwed something up in the settings.

Thanks!

Hi

If your Apple Watch is not providing haptic alerts for incoming calls, the following steps may help:

If you have not yet done so, update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:

Check your settings:

  • On your iPhone in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Wrist Detection - turn this on.
    • Note that Wrist Detection can be affected by temporary or permanent skin changes, such as by some wrist tattoos.
  • If Passcode is enabled, check that you are unlocking your watch each day after placing it on your wrist and that you are wearing your watch sufficiently snugly (your watch may otherwise believe that it has been removed from your wrist).
  • Check that Do Not Disturb mode is not enabled on your watch:
    • When viewing the time on your watch, swipe up to open Control Centre.
    • Tap the Do Not Disturb button (crescent moon icon) to toggle the setting on / off.
  • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Sounds & Haptics:
    • Check that Haptic Strength is set to the middle or far right hand side of the slider.
  • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Phone:
    • Perhaps choose Custom and check that all desired options are enabled, including Sound and Haptic under the Ringtone heading.

Restart both your iPhone and your watch, turning both devices off together, then restarting your iPhone first:

If the issue persists, it may help to unpair and re-pair your watch:
