On Safari, every time I watch a YouTube video and then go on another tab, the video's audio stops playing. When i go back to YouTube, the video is paused but when I unpause it, it plays again. I've tried restarting my ipad and stuff, but it doesn't work. What causes this/Are there any solutions? Any help would be appreciated 😁

Safari does not play video in the background on iOS. You can use a computer or look for an app that supports it.
Youtube has a paid for service that allows you to play video in the background (via their app). It's called Youtube red.
That is the reason Youtube tries to close down many apps that try to add background playback, so you may not find an app that supports it.

on ipad, you should have youtube as a "desktop site". on the upper righthand corner you should see an "arrow-up-on-a-square" icon, tap that and choose "request desktop site". now, youtube videos should continue to play while youre on another tab.
You might want to have a look at this:
If you have AdBlock activated, it could prevent the autoplay. A trick is to open youtube in a different Safari window, where youtube is the only (or the active) tab. And you carry on browsing on different Safari Windows.

Tap Settings > Safari then tap to Clear History & Website Data then restart your iPad then try a video.
Sometimes cookies cause the problems you mentioned.
Not all video / audio will play on Safari tabs on iOS.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem or a suggestion for change. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem/suggested change solved sooner.

As far as I know, yes.
Search the app store if you are allowed to install apps or look for an online streaming service for audio. Youtube is not designed to be a music service & their Youtube Red feature makes it quite clear they want money for playing files in the background. Other devices allow you to do as you please, computers & Android can work around it but iOS is too controlled by Apple & app developers.
That's funny because sometimes when I practice my instrument along with music when I use the YouTube app and turn off my iPod it stops but when I go to Safari and turn off my device it stops at first but then I can play it from the lock screen

Ha, you're right. It works for me, Safari will resume but Youtube refuses and playback comes from the Music app instead.
Post iOS versions if it fails for anyone.
I have the same problem. When I'm in lock screen mode or just simply browsing on apps or on another webpage, my video simply stops and I can't continue de video because the control panel is bugging. Please fix this problem because this is the main reason why I use the iPhone in the first place.
I was always able to play YouTube vids in the background while doing other things on my phone. For some reason safari will no longer do it... Don't know if this is a glitch or intentional but it's quite inconvenient. Try the Firefox web browser app. That seems to work for me.
Hey I've been fighting this same issue but when I logged out of my YouTube account on safari and I just looked up my audiobook when I wasn't logged in, it worked again!!! When I was logged in then youtube knew I didn't have their paid service but when I was not logged in then I guess they don't know?? Loophole !!!
FOUND A FIX!!!
Just install "Dolphin" web browser from the app store. It's free and I verified it works perfectly this morning.
Looks like Zuckerberg, Google and YouTube haven't got their greedy paws on Dolphin yet..... :-)
I have the same problem. I want to read while playing jazz on Youtube in the background and the OS won't let me. If I must join a paying service to do such a basic function (assuming it is true,) then that is very sad. If Apple made cars they'd charge you to change lanes on the highway. Very greedy and very sad.
They have full control over the device & Apple give them the tools to remove it.
Read up on Apple mobile device management if you want to impress them 🙂
