that is my issue
how do i remove/delete 'diablo' and 'lemko59' from the list showing in this post? [NOT diablo server, nor lemko59 server ]
EDIT smtp list does not show them
That first list is a list of Mail accounts, not servers. It should show the same list as you see in the left column of Mail Accounts (to the left of that first menu).
Have you got 2 instances of the duplicate accounts, for example do you have an account named lemko59 which is SMTP and also an IMAP one with the same name?
In the second screen grab showing the server, change the description to "lemko59_server" or something else, so that you won't be confused between a server and an account both having the same name.
Back to your original question - How can I edit my SMTP list?
You now don't have 'duplicates' in it. To remove any of the servers you delete them from the list of the 3 servers, although I think this is not necessary.
Have you deliberately separated your macspectrum account into two parts for Mail and Calendars - this seems unnecessary.
So is there any longer a problem, or has this resolved everything for you.
OK You have change the name of the servers. Now look at the other names which come from the account list on the left. The top one is diablo, which you have already selected. You are now on the 'Server Settings' tab, but if you go back and choose the 'Account Information' tab, you will see diablo in the Description field. Try changing it to 'diablo account'.
Now when you go back to the list in Server Settings, the top one will be 'diablo account', and the top account in the list of your accounts on the left will be 'diablo account' (highlighted in yellow). So to delete that from the list, you use the '-' sign at the bottom of that column. But beware, this deletes the account from your computer and you will not be able to send and receive mail through that IMAP server.
The list in 'server settings' is automatically populated. You can't directly remove names from it.
Andrew
your notes are a bit confusing to me
i do keep other email addresses and imap servers in case my main email pop server goes down [which it did just a day ago] also some services require an 'emergency email address' not in my domain [my domain = macspectrum.com]
i also don't trust imap servers as many websites have been hacked - i would rather keep my emails on my computer
that logic has served me well via a pop email server
with that in mind i will leave things as they are
i just found the behaviour of the email prefs 'weird'
thx again for all your info and your help
