I'm curious why removing the dead keys is important to you. Most users do not even know they exist.

It would appear not, otherwise you would loose the ability to do the special accent markings that Barney refers to - only foreign languages use these (like French, Spanish, etc). Think that the term dead key is really a red herring - meta key (just like Command and Option or Alt and shift and control and ???).

Actually you would still have that ability, via the Character Picker/Accent Menu, which is a popup that appears when you hold down the key for a letter. I think this may well be more popular than dead keys now.

Not sure what you mean by "dead keys". Can you give an example?

What do you expect them to do? Have you assigned them as shortcuts in System Preferences/Keyboard/Shortcuts?

They're chording accent keys. You hold down Option+key, then type a letter to create a combined glyph with the accent such as à, é, ñ, ü, î. There's nothing dead about them.

It doesn't really matter what some idiot on Wikipedia calls something. The keys are fully functional and not dead. You just don't seem to like their functions.
