Email inbox syncing too many emails

Email account is syncing whole inbox so shows I have 15000 emails. How do I reduce the number of days the emails are stored on the iphone for the iPhone 6s on iOS10.2

Basically my 3 email accounts were deleted from my iPhone so I have re-added them and now my inbox shows I have 15000 emails.

I used to have this set at 3days for the inbox on the phone then they'd disappear (I can still get to the emails via my desktop etc)

I can't seem to find where I change this setting! 😕

To my knowledge, the only mail account type that allows for adjusting the sync settings is an Exchange account. That provides you with the option to change. IMAP does not allow for this setting, and neither does POP. If you have web access to the account, you can make changes to your inbox there and that would reduce the number of mails to sync. I would seriously think about archiving mail with either Outlook, or some other client. Move some mail to other folders if it is necessary to keep them, or delete them from the inbox if not necessary to keep. If you archive mail, it send it to an archive inbox, so it does not clutter the regular inbox and cause syncing issues like this. This forces us to be diligent in keeping our inbox cleaner.

I have my Outlook set to archive ever week to 2-weeks, thus if I was to make changes to my account on my iPhone, it would only be syncing a week's worth of mail.
