BenQ SW320 MacBook Displayport

I'm looking to buy the BenQ SW320 monitor http://www.benq.co.uk/news/1481117329_0_157.html to connect to my MacBook (Late 2016) 2.9GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, 16GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM, Radeon Pro 460 with 4GB VRAM, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports.

To make the most of the display it has to be connected by Displayport. I believe the monitor comes with a Displayport to mini Displayport, but a Displayport to Displayport cable is an optional item. Does anyone know whether it would be better to purchase a specific cable, or whether an adapter would work? I have the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter.

Does anyone have any experience of how effective this set up is?

It depends on how you want to use your cable/adapter 🙂. There are many solutions:

A USB-C to DisplayPort adapter (I don't see any Apple product, but 3rd manufacturers may have)
A USB-C to ThunderBolt 2 Adapter + a miniDP to DP cable
A USB-C to Digital AV Multiport Adapter (like you're having) + an HDMI to DisplayPort adapter (3rd manufacturers only).

Any of those solutions should work, as long as you have good accessories 🙂. Theoretically, the less adapter the better 🙂. To my opinion, option #2 will be the best if you don't want to stick everything to a single USB-C port (assuming that your monitor comes with a miniDP to DP cable). Option #1 depends on the quality of 3rd manufacturers since Apple don't have such a thing (by the time being) 🙂.

Thanks for the great advice. That's really helpful.

I decided to also contact BenQ. Their advice was to use DisplayPort as this is the only connection which provides 10-bit colour. Also, they say DON'T use an adapter as it's likely to impact the connection quality.

So, until I can buy a DisplayPort to USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 cable it looks like it won't work as designed!
