After spending 37 minutes on apple chat I was sent an email where I could pay $10.55 cents for a replacement cap. After spending over $650.00 to upgrade to an iPad Pro and $99.99 for the Apple Pencil apple has the gall to charge for a replacement f,or their defective design. The magnetic cap is a joke - a slight tap and it falls off. A $0.99 BIC pen has a friction cap. A $5.00 pen has a screw down cap. A $99.99 Apple Pencil with a a fragile lightning cor has a magnetic cap?????

In the meantime I purchased 6 neoprene caps from Amazon to protect the lightning connector - delivered in 2 days.

Apple - after 2 days the repair status (that is what a replacement part is termed in apple world) has no information. So I call apple. After 27 minutes on my iPhone and being transfer to the highest level manager available the response - are you ready for this? The order is on hold verifying my mailing address and bank (credit card) information - for 2 days??

Thank you apple your ineptitude never ceases to amaze me. If I did not like their products I would cut the cord. I am getting really close to cutting the cord.

Cheers!!

I went to an Apple store. I waited quite a while in line and finally found myself in the queue for a spot at the "genius bar". Since I did not register my pencil (and I did not bring it with me) they have no record - a.k.a. serial number. I asked, "If the cap doesn't have a serial number, what does it matter? The pencil won't care."

Bottom line... I left the store empty handed; and thoroughly frustrated at how Apple handled the whole situation. They couldn't help me because I didn't have the serial number to the pencil?! Really?!?

I dropped and nearly lost my pen cap 3 times while carrying my Apple Pencil the first day I got the iPad Pro in its Logitech Slim Combo keypad case. Obviously, they need to improve the cap adherence to the lightening connector. I'm considering returning the pencil before I lose my cap. Apple should comp you the cap.
