Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0

I have installed (or at least I think I have installed) Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 on my Intel Mac Mini. I have followed the installation instructions and the serial number on the box was accepted for loading the Adobe files onto the Mac’s hard disk. However, when I launch the programme the following message appears.

“Your Adobe Photoshop Elements user name, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue and must now exit”.

I've run disk permissions repair but to no avail.

Has anyone had this problem and been able to resolve it?

Dear Barbara,

The Library does not appear to have an Adobe Registration Database. Unforunately, I can't attach a screen shot here to show you. I have Intego Virus Barrier X4 installed. This has been marketed on the claim that you can instal applications without turning it off. Moreover, it is not clear how you do turn it off but I will make enquiries with Intego.

Are you sure you are looking in Library and not System/library or yourusername/library? The path is your computer/library/Application Support/Adobe/Registration Database. (There is an application support folder in both the other libraries, as well, but you want this one.)

You absolutely must disable AV software before installing PE or many weirdnesses will happen.

EDIT Well, you won't have that registration file if you were never able to get as far as registering the program, in which case disable Intego (I wouldn't have a program I couldn't disable, myself) and create a new admin user and try installing from there.

also is this a legal version purchased from apple retailer

to stop piracy which im happy about adobe decided to keep watch on all serials for adobe photoshop and elements not only do you have to register the software online within 30 days but there are hackers generating fake keys which leads to several versions of adobe elements becoming invalid which makes your 100.00 piece of software junk

I doubt that. Even if a software house were to invalidate any specific licence key, a legitimate owner who might be victim of that action would only need to contact the company or vendor and seek a replacement or other resolution. At worst, proof of purchase would be requested.

I bought PE last Saturday, and it won't load on my Mini, but is ok on my Powerbook.

However, I really don't want it on my PB, I bought it for my Mini. My problem is different to Grenwich's; I can go through the installation process ok, restart - but when I click on the icon to open it, it loads as far as 'reading workspace modes', then I get the 'App PE has quit unexpectedly'.

I've worked through troubleshooting; I'm an admin, I've repaired the disk permissions, etc, but it still won't work.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Thanks Boece, it's a G4 PPc Mini, but I hunted around a little more on this incredible forum, and found the answer - to build a new account for myself and install on that....and it's worked!

One more thing.....is there a way to jump between user accounts without either all that tedious loggingout/logging back in, or dummping everything in 'shared'?

Yes.

While Boece is right that using a separate account isn't really the solution, just indicates that there's nothing wrong with the system and the software, but something in your (original) user account that should be amenable to being fixed, you can switch between users quite easily with Fast User Switching. You enable this via the Accounts preference pane. Click on Login Options (you may have to click the padlock and give your admin password to unlock access), and then click 'Enable fast user switching'. If you leave the default view as 'Name' you'll then see an icon on the top right of the menu bar with the currently logged in user's name, and can switch between users by clicking that and selecting whichever other user account is appropriate. Once your two user accounts are logged in, you can switch between them seamlessly that way without disturbing active processes.

If you then save documents you need for both accounts in the shared area, you can work between accounts without problem. Be aware that since both accounts are active, memory usage can grow to the point the system slows down if you don't have ample RAM!
