Strange iCloud Activity - Turkish Crime Family "Ransom" Hack Connection?
I have been seeing a lot of news about the supposed iCloud "hack".
Has anyone noticed any strange activity recently regarding your iCloud account?
I had a subtle but odd experience one day last week. I received a random email from Apple saying that at 3:30PM my Apple ID was used to sign into the device "My iPad". I don't remember the exact wording, but it was along those lines and is the generic message that is sent every time you sign into iCloud using your Apple ID on a device. It was legitimately from Apple and nothing seemed odd or out of place about the sender, wording, font, or graphics in the email. The only thing that was out of place was that I did not actually sign into that device, or any of my devices at that time, or even that day.
The device name listed was in fact my device. However, my iPad has already been signed into my iCloud account for about a month now. The settings have not been changed and I have not signed out of iCloud since I set it up a month ago. It has not been synced or connected to iTunes via my computer or WiFi and I have not done anything that may have changed my iCloud status. The iPad was actually by my side and not being used at the time that the email said the device was signed into.
I consider myself pretty tech savvy and a fluent user of Apple products. And am knowledgeable about the functionality of iOS. This email through me for a loop though and I pondered on it for a while.
Again, I find this very strange considering I can not remember ever receiving a random or erroneous message from Apple like this.
I know Apple claims that their systems have not been breached but I am starting to wander if this odd email is somehow linked to this supposed "hack".
Any input or thoughts?
