EtreCheck is a simple little app to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac.

Couple of possibilities...
I went to my System Preferences and typed "wireless" into the search box. It highlighted "bluetooth" as well, so I unchecked both the "on" and "discoverable" boxes, as I don't need to access my computer remotely. I am hoping this stops it from making spooky, power-wasting noises.
Laptop info, but possible clues here...

Could be either internal fan noise from a failing fan or a fan with a worn out motor bearing or an internal hard drive failing.
My iMac's internal hard drive, while not completely dead and "hosed" was/is on the out.
It was both emitting a high pitched squealing and making progressively louder clicking sounds.
My iMac was, also, performing only slightly sluggishly from this failing drive
So, you may need to bring your iMac in for diagnosis and possible quote for a repair/drive replacememt.
If you don't have a backup of all your Mac's system or important personal data, now would be the time tomget a quality external hard drive and use either OS X Time Machine to backup your iMac or use a data cloning app like Bombich Software CarbonCopyCloner OR Shirt Pocket's SuperDuper to make a bootable clone of your current system.
I have switched to using an external 480 GBs SSD in a FireWire 800 enclosure and my iMac is doing very well with this.
I am getting an average input/output throughput through FW800 of around 94-96 MBps which is a little better than what FW800 was, normally, able to achieve with an older spinning, 7200 RPM, mechanical hard drives.
Very happy with the performance from this external drive, so far.
I've only been using this drive for a little over a month, now.
Good Luck to You!
