Which keyboards work for the new ipad (2017)?

Hi,

I have the new ipad on delivery and I'm wondering about keyboards/cases. I really like the look of the ipad pro keyboard (9.7) but I can't see anywhere on the Apple site which could tell me if it would work with the new ipad.

I have the Logitech slim keyboard which works fine with my old ipad 2 and I'm guessing it will pair with the new but it might be time to upgrade.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2), Unibody mid 2009

I think most of us have figured out that the new iPad will work with any of the Bluetooth keyboards, but will they fit or attach correctly? I have both a Logitech and an old Balkan keyboard and they will both synch with the new iPad, but the iPad will not fit correctly and neither keyboard "hugs" the iPad or protects it, as they both just fall off and won't become a 'unit' like my old iPads would. So, do you (or anyone here on this forum) know of a keyboard that is made for this new size iPad?

Okay, having received the new iPad (are we calling it the iPad 5?) I checked out the Belkin Ultimate for iPad Air and the Zagg Slim Book, also for iPad Air. By Air I mean 1st gen as that is supposed to be the same dimensions as the iPad 5. Now, that may be true, but the Belkin's attached case that is supposed to fit the back of the iPad did not fit at all, it was too narrow in depth. The depth of Air and 5 is 7.5mm I believe but the Belking felt more like Air 2's 6.9mm. I tried hard to get it in but all I did was nearly break it (that is not a euphemism, BTW).

The Zagg Slim Book on the other hand fits perfectly. The slight issue for me is the concept of the case back, with the iPad in it, is attached to the keyboard by a pair of holes in the plastic case and magnets. Admittedly the magnets appear to be strong and I don't feel it is not secure, but still...

The other issue with the Zagg keyboard case is that the holes for the volume buttons do not quite line up right and the dividing bit of plastic of the two holes actually pressed onto the up volume button. I solved that by cutting the plastic away with a craft knife and sanding down. Obviously the Zagg has a little weight to it, so together it feels a bit more like my old iPad 2 and Logitech ultra thin keyboard case but I can live with that. Overall I am happy - smiley face.

Apple "Officially calls the new 2017 iPad, the iPad 5th generation, hence iPad 5.

The dimensions and thickness of the new iPad 5 have been comfirmed to nearly match the original iPad Air 1 dimensions and NOT the iPad Air 2.

Yes, the iPad Air 1 had the mute/rotation side switch and the volume side buttons had a small gap inbetween them.

Those things are both gone on the new iPad 5, so iPad Air 1 cases will NOT be an entirely exact fit!

Of course, not all BT keyboards are also cases. My first logitech iOS BT keyboard is a separate, full sized keyboard for example. So "fit" was never part of the original question in this thread - compatibility was.

If one is interested specifically in the fit of a BT keyboard case, then the dimensions of the new iPad are in the online specs.

I've been unable to find any case & keyboard all in one for the new 5th gen iPad yet. I bought mine last month & have had to settle for a case only. But typing on screen keyboard is onerous. It won't fit onto my old Logitech keyboard.

Logitech has just come out with a new case + keyboard. Only taking pre-orders to be available for purchase sometime later this month. Only in black it appears. I would love to know if any other companies have these combine case & keyboard available.

Hi, I have had the same issue as above, and even bought the zagg slim book that was meant for iPad air2 initially, but then exchanged it for the other slim book that said it was for iPad Air (which are the same dimensions as ipad5) but i can't get that case to fit on my iPad either! You said it fit perfectly, is your slimbook model number ID8ZF2-BB? And if so, do you have a secret to fit the case on? Thank,

Nick

I just purchased an iPad 2017 and was bemoaning the lack of keyboard/case. Even the Apple store didn't offer one, but just told me Logitech was designing one, but it was not out yet. There were cases from online sellers that held the iPad, and offered a keyboard, but it was detachable and just did not sit well on my lap. I then read a review that the iPad 2017 has the same dimensions as the iPad Air 1 from 2013. So, I went on line and found a brand new Logitech Canvas keyboard/case that fits the iPad 2017 perfectly and it works a treat! So, most cases/keyboard for the Apple iPad Air 1 will work with the iPad 2017. Here is the case/keyboard I got https://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Canvas-Keyboard-Case-iPad/dp/B01G8XXJXM.
