why does my phone die throughout the night when it's not in use

So I'll have my phone charged to either full battery or above 80%, and without fail, through 6-9hours of sleep, I'll wake up to it either being 9% or dead flat, which is frustrating because it's brand new? iPhone 6s..

I don't like leaving it on charge alllllll night long because I don't want to stuff my phone, but I can't leave for a full day of work with less then 10%....

Don't want to have it on airplane mode sometimes because what if I have an important call or message come through the night or in the morning.

What do I do,

Sazaphone,

Csound1 is correct. It is a best-practice to leave it on a charger overnight. You will start the day with a fully charged phone, and if WiFi is on, iCloud backups can occur.

However, it seems like you have something else going on. See the steps below:

Go to Settings > Battery and scroll down to BATTERY USAGE to see the apps that are consuming your battery. If any of the apps have unusually high usage they can be shut down (double tap the Home button, scroll left or right to find the app, then swipe up to shut it down).

As time goes by you should be able focus on the problem apps. Usually it is a rogue app constantly running in the background. You should then be able adjust the settings to the problem app to solve your problem.

Let us know how it goes.
