iTunes error -45075

I'm using Windows 10 on a brand new PC and when I try and run iTunes I get an error message saying missing component -45075 please reinstall or repair.

I've attempted both repair and installation multiple times with the same error.

Thanks

A full tear down and rebuild of iTunes is the process set out in Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows 7 and later - Apple Support or the second box of my troubleshooting tip.

Try starting the Event Viewer from the search box in the start menu, type in the text Event Viewer until you see a suitable result then click on it. Launch iTunes, which will presumably crash. Look in the application log and select the recent error.

Perhaps there will be some useful information in there. Also, what is the full text of the error message and at what point does it appear? I.e. does iTunes appear to have installed correctly only to crash when launched, or does the error occur during installation which then fails? Assuming a runtime error try right-clicking the iTunes shortcut and using the run as administrator option.

iTunes makes use of various Visual C++ run time libraries. These should be installed if not already present as part of the iTunes setup process but it may help to pre-install both the 2005 Redistributable as outlined here and the Microsoft Update for Universal C Runtime in Windows before attempting to install iTunes again. When attempting to install iTunes right-click on the setup file and use the Run as administrator option.

I had replaced a Hard Drive and installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 on our HP Notebook.

I then tried to install Itunes and got the -45075 error. I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and all the weird tips.

I spent around 3 hours on the phone to Apple support, and it seems as if the reason for the error was AVG anti virus, which was somehow blocking additional components required by Itunes, from being installed properly.

I uninstalled the antivirus program, and re-installed Itunes... and it now works.

I am not sure if the following steps made any difference

But as part of the troubleshooting, I forced Windows to download all the latest updates which took about an hour to complete

Uninstalled Itunes and AVG

When re-installing Itunes, it was quite noticeably installing extra components.

After installing ITunes successfully, I re-installed the Ant-Virus...

Hope this helps someone else

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Run the installer as the administrator.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

That particular error number isn't listed within Find an iTunes error code - Apple Support. The description would indicate a problem with one of the components that are installed with iTunes, or perhaps other dependencies. Without further information to narrow down the line of attack a full tear down and rebuild is the best suggestion that comes to mind.

I don't have a definitive solution, but I think the text marked in bold will help in this particular case. It has helped others.

When reinstalling right click on the downloaded setup file and use run as administrator. It may also help to pre-install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable. It may also help to temporarily disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus.

It's an error that shows up in searches going back a few years now so I am struggling to accept that Itunes (Apple) don;t know about it or have a fix for it.

When you say a full tear down and rebuild....to what are you referring? I have a brand new Windows 10 laptop here and I've been trying since Monday to install Itunes.

I've gone from disabling itunes helper through to turning off virus checker and windows firewall. All the while I've been constantly uninstalling and removing all trace of itunes and reinstalling. I've tried repairs, older versions of itunes, WINRAR extractions etc etc etc.

Surely someone out there can try to help rather than point to support guides that are not going to help and then shrug shoulders?

Someone? Anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for quick reply.

Going to the first step first, there are no error messages in the application log. There are a few MSInstaller messages and they are saying that it was installed successfully. This lines up with the installation process where I'm told it is successfully installed and only displays the error when I tried to open it.

I will have a look at your second step now.

Ok TT2. I've tried both steps. As per my previous reply, there was no standalone installer for windows 10 on the list.

Still got the error 45075 of a missing component.

Rechecking the logs there is a message on Ipod service that is showing up. "The description for Event ID 0 from source iPod Service cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer."

As far as I know the iPod service is used to optionally launch iTunes whenever an iDevice is connected. The service may not be installed or run at startup unless you've configured a device and left the "Launch iTunes when this device is connected" option enabled. Either way, iTunes should be able to run even if that particular service hasn't been installed or configured properly.

What anti-virus package do you have? Perhaps, as above, merely disabling it isn't sufficient to prevent it interfering with the iTunes installation.

Disabling AVG worked for me, I now have the issue of my iPod connects with no issues but my iPhone 7 Plus come up as unidentified and tells me to re-install the software from the summary tab and then closes iTunes.

Another issue I now have is that to close iTunes, I have to use task manager as no other method forces a close.

**Just a side note, I have no issues with iTunes on my Macbook Air apart from lack of storage to do an iPhone backup.

Most likely you have AVG internet security installed on your machine, I would highly recommend you to uninstall AVG and restart the machine. Now uninstall iTunes and re-install it. Yoh will notice it installing the preaviously failing components. If you don't have AVG in your machine then you must be having another security software, remove it, remove iTunes and re-install iTunes. Hopefully it works for you and then you can re-install your security software lastly and if it come back it means you will have to report both softwares to their publishers to check for conflict

I have this problem also and have wasted 3 hours of my life uninstalling and re-installing software on my Brand new top of the line windows PC running the latest version of windows 10 fully updated.

I don't think this is my responsibility and as a result of this I am voting with my feet. I have an iphone6, itunes is not fit for purpose with Windows 10 and I will be buying a new phone in 3 months which would have been the latest iphone, I will not now be buying the latest iphone but a SAMSUNG which works with windows 10. This error is down to you apple I like iphones but need one that works with the operating system I have chosen sadly iphones do not work with windows 10 and as a result you have lost a customer.
