What's the real exFAT file size limit?

I recently got an external HDD (WD My Passport) and formatted it exFAT so that it can be opened on a pc as well. My primary use for it is video editing.

I understand that exFAT is limited to files up to 4GB. However, I was able to transfer to the drive larger files without a problem (The largest file being over 5GB).

I thought that the limit means that the drive won't accept these files. Does it mean something else?

I'm afraid I could encounter problems with these files down the line, or that they won't be able to be opened on a pc. Does anyone have experience with this?

Many Thanks!
