Setting Up Nameservers

New to OS X Server. I'll be using it for a website. I bought the domain from GoDaddy. It is asking me for the nameserversfor the server. Where do I find this information? I think it should be dns.xxxx.com (where xxxx is my server).

Mac mini, macOS Sierra (10.12.2), null

John if you're talking about the macOS Server app in the App Store, then that is what I have, but there is no place to set up domain nameservers, just DNS for your router. Hence my question above. Per your information about GoDaddy I have switched the nameserver from custom to default. Hopefully this will fix it.

Server.app does definitely have this option however it is considered an 'advanced' function and therefore initially 'hidden'. If you look on the lefthand side of the Server.app window you will see a line called 'Advanced', if you however over that line with the mouse the word 'Show' should reveal itself to the right of the word Advanced, this when selected will expose the advanced functions including DNS.

Alternatively you can go to the View menu in Server.app and nearer the bottom is a matching advanced section also listing the DNS function.

Yes, that is where you set up the DNS for your router, not a domain.

I have switched the GoDaddy nameservers from custom (previously was using Site5 as the host) to default, but it can take up to 48 hours to see if this fixes the problem. Thanks for trying to help. I appreciate it.

The Server.app DNS function is definitely a real full-blown 100% genuine DNS server. It is actually a GUI front-end to the standard BIND aka Named DNS server software that is the most widely used DNS server software in the world.

It is admittedly most commonly used to only provide internal DNS features for your LAN but nothing at all prevents you from using it for external i.e. Internet usage.

The only router related DNS function I can think of in Server.app that you might be getting confused with is that Server.app can in some circumstances configure the settings of Apple's AirPort Extreme base station. This is however a separate function and not the something as the full-blown DNS feature as per the article above.
