Can't drag and drop safari images to desktop

Hi,

I just updated my version of safari 10.1 and now I suddenly can't drag and drop images to the desktop.

I just keep getting the error report message popup.

OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Here is a clue...

I am on 27" iMac, late 2015, w/retina, El Capitan, Safari 10.1

Try this and maybe you can make some sense of it...

  1. System Preferences > Displays > Color (my default is iMac)
  2. Change Display profile to Generic RGB Profile (for example)
  3. Now try dragging and dropping in Safari

Were I an Apple engineer I would think I had a good lead here, can anyone shed some light?

I have tried all of the above solutions apart from installing the MAC OS again - which is little extreme for this issue.

The fact that several other people are experiencing the same issue, says to me that the Safari application itself is the issue.

So again when pressing and holding the mouse button over an image everything is fine. Its simply when I try to drag the image it causes this issue.

UPDATE: I have now submitted the error/issue to apple direct.

It's the second time they reply me in Twitter and for that reason I think Twitter is a good way to show our annoyance with this issue. It's really public... not like this forums, that are mainly for mac users.

Again... I encourage all of you to show your disappointment with the issue in feedbacks (https://www.apple.com/feedback/safari.html) and in Twitter. The more the better.

I think they are in problem contention mode... they are trying to keep us quiet. They are quite devious... they want to show us that they are taking care of us but without disclosing or telling us that the problem is going to be fixed.

It's just PR. If we create enough noise we'll pass the PR wall and perhaps we'll reach a point where they don't have any other option but to fix SOON.

Try to delete the contents of safari in user library ( except Bookmarks ) , into the trash , restart & empty the trash .

Some more steps are to be followed run safe mode : macOS Sierra: Start up in safe mode

If it does 'nt help it is wiser to install the OS once again .

Here is the issue in stages.

  1. As soon as I try to drag any image on the web pages, the page goes white with a grey message at the top 'A problem incurred with this webpage so it was reloaded'.
  2. Next a popup appears saying 'Safari Web Content quit unexpectedly'.
  3. The report starts with....
  4. NOTE: The popup dropdown menu works fine so will use that instead for now.

Nothing new has been updated/installed apart from Safari and apples own security update.

  1. Safari Version 10.1
  2. Security Update 2017-001

I will see if I get any feedback from apple or there is a new update to safari.

For now I will simply hover over the image mouse click + ctrl and use the dropdown instead 'Save image as...'. Which is working fine with no issues.
