iPhone 7, 3rd party lightning-to-headphone adapter stops working with iOS 10.3

I updated the iOS on my iPhone 7 from 10.2.1 to 10.3 this morning. Since that time, the 3rd party Lightning-to-headphone jack adapter I have - which worked just fine before the update - now eventually stops working with a message that "This accessory is not supported by this iPhone." I might get 5-10 minutes of listening before this happens, and I can only recover by restarting the phone. I suspect that there are tighter controls built into the new iOS that limits which accessories can be used (it would be in Apple's financial benefit to do so, so why not?). Just wanted to see if anyone else has run into this and/or if anyone knows of any workarounds. I have an iPad mini running 10.2.1, and I can use this same adapter without issue indefinitely. So, the iOS update definitely has something to do with this change. Thanks all in advance for your help and attention.
