Only one speaker working with Airport Express

Hi,
Hoping for some help. I just connected an Airport Express to my stereo but only one speaker (left) is working. I plugged in headphones to the jack in the AExpress as suggested in other postings and both left and right work there. I have checked and updated Airport Extreme base station and Airport Express firmware software.
I have an older amp (connecting the RCA cables to the TAPE ports since there is no AUX) but both speakers work for everything but the AirTunes.
I am hoping there is a fix since I would really like this to work.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm having the same problem. It does seem to be a faulty jack on the Airport. I think this, because everybody on here, myself included, has said they are positive its not the cables, and the only people who get it fixed are those who switch to optical cables. This is because the Airport Express is putting out both signals, and instead of depending on the poorly fitting analog jack, it is using the red light optical signal.

Until I get an optical cable, I'll just have to keep jiggling my cable to get it to work again. This is a pretty poorly handled issue by apple, which is sad.

Ugh, another big fat me too. Add on a bunch of issues with dropped connections when initially setting up the AE (after 40 min on the phone with Apple and 4 hard reboots it finally works) and it's been very frustrating.

Had heard it was coming out of only one speaker but was sure it was my cable as I had just swapped inputs and broke my cable in the process. Hung up with apple, swapped the cable and now only get audio out of the left channel.

It's hard to believe there have been this many posts without a response from Apple. Do they even read these forums? Apple, maybe put in a notification system in your message board that will alert you when there's an open topic like this that has so many of the same message?

This is the third very frustrating experience I've had with Apple hardware in the last few years after 8 or so without a single problem.

evanmcd - these discussion forums are very much "user to user" discussion forums. It is extremely rare for Apple's own tech support people to post here. Commonly discussed issues (that have a solution) do eventually get written up as articles in the support knowledgebase. If you need a response directly from an Apple support tech, you will need to phone in.

Same here guys...

Just bought a brand new Airport Express N router, & only one speaker is working. I called AppleCare & they don't know what to do about it. Am thinking about contacting Macworld's Mac 911 dept & seeing if they have an answer. I'm about to send feedback to Apple (apple.com/feedback) & tell them about this issue. And I hope & pray they read it! With all of us having the issue something is definitely wrong on Apple's end somewhere.

Hoping & praying for the best,

I just had this problem as well. After rewiring the speakers and connecting my laptop to the audio cable going into the amp, I've concluded that the problem was the Airport Express's jack.

I plugged earphones into the jack and had the same problem—sound only from one speaker. I then fiddled with the jack connection a bit an, voila, sound from both speakers.

I reconnected my amp, fiddled with the jack until I was getting sound from both speakers.

Not the ideal solution, but it works for now...
