Can both my husband and myself use Touch ID on the same iPad?

My husband and I are considering buying the newest iPad, either the 12 inch or 9 inch, we haven't decided. Is it possible for each of us to access the iPad using the Touch ID feature, using two different prints or would we have to use a passcode to allow both of us access?

You can program up to 5 fingers in any device. Keep in mind that an iPad will periodically prompt for the password to re-enable Touch ID.

To configure Touch ID, you must first set up a passcode. Touch ID is designed to minimize the input of your passcode; but your passcode will be needed for additional security validation:

  • After restarting your device
  • When more than 48 hours have elapsed from the last time you unlocked your device
  • To enter the Touch ID & Passcode setting

You can input/scan more than one fingerprint for Touch ID.

So, I let my wife program one of her fingers into my iPad Pro in case she needs to get into my iPad if I become sick, unconscious. incoherent or just plain dead, she can get into my iPad with her fingerprint recorded with Touch ID on my iPad Pro.

I had her test and it seems to work.

She, also, has all of my different passwords and passcodes for all of my iDevices and my Mac.

So, Touch ID for two people on one iDevice should work.
