notifications on my watch but not phone when in lock screen

I just received a replacement iphone 6 and I'm having trouble with the notifications. when my phone is in lock screen and connected to my apple watch I receive the notification on my watch but my phone doesn't light up nor do I receive any notification on my phone for text messages. I've checked the notifications settings for messages and it's on for lock screen and I've checked the notifications for my watch and it's set to mirror my iphone. help? i received it on both devices with my previous iphone.

I understand that you've gotten a replacement iPhone 6, and now when using your Apple Watch, you only see notifications on it and not on your iPhone. I'm happy to provide some help with this.

How notifications behave depends on the status of your devices. In order to bring notifications to your attention as soon as possible.
If your iPhone is unlocked, you will receive notifications on your iPhone instead of on your watch. If your iPhone is locked or asleep and your watch is unlocked and on your wrist, you will receive notifications on your watch. If your watch is locked or has Do Not Disturb enabled, notifications will go to your iPhone.
