Actually you can. Instead of the Stock symbol, use the option Symbol. So for example if you are tracking Apple stock option expiring March 31st at a strike of 145, put in this formula. In an adjacent cell (say C2), put AAPL170331C00145000 as the ticker and in the formula use =STOCK(C2, "Bid Price")

This function will return the option bid price. The Ask Price will return the ask price and the word Price will return the Last price.

It works wonderfully.

SG,

The plot thickens. I hadn't realize the quotes were from Yahoo so I now went to Yahoo! finance and I did find those tickers (they don't show on the initial page, but there is a "date" drop-down that lets you go out further in time). From there I did a copy-and-paste to my spreadsheet. I say the plot thickens, because I pasted the NVDA ticker and it works. I pasted the CBOE ticker and it tells me "Data for the ‘bid price’ attribute isn’t available for the selected symbol."

So it appears that the function does work for me, but there is apparently something maybe not 100% reliable in the interface with Yahoo?

Thanks again for your kind help.

Either way, it puts me miles ahead of where I was with Excel for Mac.

Yes, agree. In Excel for Mac I ended up having to write a VBA macro that pulls a wide variety of stock info from Yahoo! Finance (though I didn't try anything with options).

For prices this is far easier, and works in iOS too!

I have this problem as well.

It could be a bug in the latest update of Numbers or it could be yahoo finance, infamously buggy, (which is where Apple gets its data - why they choose that as a solution is mind numbing, however..)

So for example (and you can use any stock option you like as its the same problem)

STOCK("AAPL180119C00120000", "price")

Produces the error "Ask Price data is not available."

One more thing I noticed is that the last price seems to work fine. It is just the bid and ask price that has issues. For price, you can either ask for "price" or leave it blank. I did not see the option for "bid price" and "ask price" anymore. Perhaps Apple took those options away. Was a good addition for options, especially illiquid options.

Hey TestTest13Test,

Sorry to get you excited but my posts further up this thread were from March and April of this year. The June update apparently put the kybosh on options, and even live stock prices.

Since the iPhone stock price app returns more-or-less live quotes, it's not as if Apple got shut out by Yahoo Finance. So why they decided to exclude something they already had in Numbers is beyond me.

I did send Feedback from the app, voicing my strong displeasure.

Hi,

To be clear.

Stock Options prices are no longer available in Numbers since June.

Apple's stock markets prices, both through the Stock App on the iPhone and globally in Numbers, have a 20 minute delay (this is normal). All Yahoo finance is delayed 20 minutes.

I am guessing that the inclusion of this function in Numbers may have hammered Yahoo's finance server. Yahoo seems to be quite sensitive about the use of its financial data and it is always somewhat unreliable at the best of times - even more so if someone starts using it. I'm surprised Apple is using it and you might have thought that Yahoo would have treated Apple as some form of executive client (since one assumes, Apple is paying a premium to grab the data) but it appears not.

Anyway, really irritating that this function is no longer avalaible...

I still do not know why Apple did not buy Yahoo's financial services when they had the chance but ...

Same issue, but with warrants instead of listed options. It appears to use Yahoo Finance as the source of the info, and I can retrieve the info for the GM class B warrants (strike price 18.33, expiration 2019-07-10) from Yahoo Finance using the symbol GM-WTB (the symbol varies across different quotes systems, and I've tried all of them that I am aware of). Anyone know a way to get this data?
