macOS Sierra Update 10.12.4 Stuttering Audio

Yesterday I ran the 10.12.4 update in the morning. The install was pretty routine and upon completion, I noticed an immediate problem.

I use a Plantronics Audio .478 USB headset with my iMac. The audio to my headset constantly stuttered. I tested iTunes, YouTube, as well as Slack phone calls -- all audio had the same effect -- constant stuttering. I tried bypassing my USB hub and plugged it directly into my iMac, but the problem persisted. I reset my NVRAM, but the problem persisted.

Audio coming out of the internal speakers was find. I plugged in another headset to test and the problem did not persist. This lead me to believe that the my Plantronics headset was bad, so I replaced it with the same make and model (because I liked it). The problem persisted with the new Plantronics headset.

My last resort was to do a system restore back to 10.12.3. After that was complete, the audio no longer stuttered.

So what could possibly have been introduced in 10.12.4 to cause audio issues with this exact model headset?

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.4), null

Ok so have you tried to configure this headset in the audio midi setup? Usually from there creating your device into an agregate and using as the master should work. Please comment back I've seen too many replies on devices via USB not working. Also make sure the headset is "Class Compliant" meaning no drivers are needed. If it does in fact need drivers I'd start there.

Ok you could go to your system and open the audio midi setup utility, then you may need to create an aggregate audio device or you may want to also try and look at info from the headset makers website. I think this info is old, but not too old.

Oh~~ My god. I never thought it's because the issue of new upgrade of 10.12.4. I have threw away my old Logitech H340. Since I found all other earphone works well when I using iMac. The worse case is I believe my Logitech headphone is broken and then I bought a new one. And tried the new one yesterday evening the issue is still... Thanks god that I didn't threw my new Logitech H340 again and I found what you are talking about... Apple's quality is going down???

Exactly what i did - i assumed the headset was goosed and bough a second set (and threw away the first) as i tested on my macbook too - i didnt realise both mac pro and laptop had updated to 10.12.4

No problems since upgrading to 10.12.5 - but i dont think i will be purchasing any new Apple products. Their silence over this issue is just soooo bad. I have lost hours of work over this issue and issues it was causing in Adobe products and others.

I've been on Apple products since my Apple II si with 4 mb of ram - 1990, 27 years of use and this is the worst OS i've known. Just feels like a PC so might as well be PC pricing from now on!

Stefrussell I could agree with you more. About 10 years back I worked in a large corporate recording studio and we used the big original Mac Pro. It was a beast with very few issues at all. Today in 2017 after coming back to Mac from a Windows system I could agree more. They've completely lost their origin and I'm now sitting here with no help from apple support to figure out what should be a very simple issue. I have a 2015 late 27" iMac retina 5k 3.3 quad core skylake with a 2TB fusion drive and r9 m395 and 8gb of ram which I can't get to update to the 32gb specs. Read all of apples support but it would seem that these hardware and software issues prevent me from utilizing countless thousands in gear. If anyone here has used Mac for a long time and could recommend a reputable manufacturer Random Access Memories for the new iMac 27 inch 5K that they have personally had good experiences with could you please post to me? I've tried crucial twice with extreme failure and every specification matched with no problem, the cards were inserted correctly, yet it showed up OK, but continued to fail while inside the computer. It's not logical whatsoever and it my assumption that is there may be a conflict in hardware in the computer at a stock aspect or it's not being taken correctly because of some lack of EFI update.

Having a similar issue after updating to 10.12.4

I'm using a Gefen USB 2.0 Extender and RevoLabs UC500. This combination was working fine before the update and after the update, the audio began to stutter. I manage to fix the issue by using a SIIG 2.0 active repeater, but this is not ideal since I need the distance the extender allows me to run.

I also tested out OSX 10.12.5 (beta). Issue is still there. 😟

I hope apple can trace this issue down and resolve it soon.

Yup same here. Thank you. My thought would be that whoever is deleting on apples end should have a chat with the teir 2 or 3 managers I've been speaking with. Thank you to the above poster I'm on the feedback and I'll make sure higher tiers hear this. Apple don't delete posts after admitting you screwed up to pro users. Your complete re-design was not our fault as admitted.

it cost me a head set as i thought mine were goosed so i bought a new set and threw the old ones out (both my macs had same issue), i then found new one to be same - by the time i went to fish out the old headset my bin had been emptied. Its just really rotten customer service. And the vetting on these posts is ridiculous deleting posts which had a solution but obviously not Apples. I've said before been on Apple since the beggining but this will be my last!

happydan glad to hear back from someone specifically working with audio production. Is it the audiobox or audiobox VSL series? I run AKAI MPC touch, NI maschine studio, some Yamaha keyboards, Komplete 10, universal audio interfacing with quite a bit more. What is happening on your end? This is seriously confusing because Presonus said they had ready to go gear on Mac OS Sierra but when I installed all my gear on Sierra I had some major problems right after studio one 3 and the MPC touch. Had all kinds of stuff flying around in my system info logs containing SIGSEV messages and thunderbolt hub crashes. I will say I highly doubt it's Presonus because I have a Mac laptop running it just fine. It's an old MBP from 2010. Could you check your system report and let me know if you see anything odd? Any info would be so helpful, thank you. To be honest I've never encountered problems like this until my new iMac.
