apple tv wants a verification code. it doesnt allow me to watch purchased tv show after i enter the code i received on my iphone

I'm trying to watch a newly purchased tv show on Apple TV. Apple TV is asking me for a verification code - I've had it for two years and it's never done this before. I receive the notification on my iphone, tap allow, and enter the displayed code in Apple TV. It doesn't work. I've tried several times and am still unable to watch the purchased to show.

Hi. It sounds like you've enabled 2-factor authentication for your Apple ID. Apple's been making this a part of updates, and many users just accept it. Because your older device doesn't have the updated implementation, you need to use the tricks in this link: Re: appleTV keeps asking for appleID, password and authentication code circularly to make it work. The order and timing is critical since the code has a short timeout. Good luck!
