Ipad pro 12 vs mac air
Purchasing a new device for myself. I can't decide between ipad pro 12 inch vs the mac air. I will be doing mostly word processing and photo editing. Any, input welcome.

That depends:
Are you sure the limited features in iOS will work for what you want to do?
Or do you think you may need full file management capabilities, and applications that run on Mac and not on iOS?
Do you think the apps available on iOS are enough for what you want to do?
Do you think you will need a mouse?
Will you require full support for external devices such as usb drives?
Think about what exactly you plan on doing and what apps you will need to be using, then see if that is covered by the iPad or MacBook Air better.
Hi. As Phil0124 says, you should give it some real hard thought. A lot of the posts in this forum are from users trying to make iPads do computer functions. I love my iPad, and use it all the time, but I wouldn't give up my computer. I've been jotting down the computer things that are difficult or impossible on iPads. Here's my list, in no particular order:
Removable storage for easy sharing
Permanent backup to CD or DVD
Expandable peripheral interfaces
Files of different types in same directory (project)
Directory trees for organizing data and projects
Programs can access files on shared servers
Wider support of file types, e.g. video
Apply different programs to same file
Write and compile programs
More powerful programs for real work
Multiple windows, multiple screens
Flexible internet downloading and uploading
Serve as host for other devices, phones and iPads
Multiple users with different profiles
Full printer control
Run different OS using virtualization
Some of these repeat Phil0124's items. For me, the killer is the limited ability to manage files on the iPad, since each app essentially manages its own files, in its own peculiar way.
For comprehensive image editing, ANY MacBook is better than an iPad!
The iPad is a simpler device and and iOS is more simplified and a very app-centric OS.
The iPad CAN do comprehensive image editing, but you may need to bounce around 3-4 apps to get the job done and with high res imagery, this can slow the process down on an iPad even further.
WIth the large iPad Pro, you have both touchscreen and Apple Pencil/third party smart stylus support.
Also, the 12.9 inch iPad only has 4 GBs of installed RAM.
MacBooks come with 8 GBs of RAM and run full OS X and full OS X Apps.
If you get a MacBook with the Touch Bar, you have some touch controls, that way.
April is here and April is, usually, the time for a product refresh for iPads and Mac desktops.
So, I would wait a little longer to purchase any iPad until something happens in April.
MacBooks are already locked in for another 6 months, or so, so no problem with purchasing a MacBook right now.
Good Luck to You!
depending on the requirements of your photo editing the Air might have a slight edge.
both devices will be limited if you are working with high resolution images for print.
