iChat with AIM sound effects??

i'm just switching over to ichat after using aim for a long time. i like it for the most part however i would like to be able to add the aim sounds effects into ichat. how can i do this? i don't know where the aim sounds on my comp are located. i have adium so there are also sound effects for aim on my computer through adium, however i can't find them for the life of me.

another question of mine is there anyway to make it so when i'm away that the application is muted?

thanks in advance.

Hi,

I can tell you where iChat keeps it sound files.
I can tell you where iChat reads other sound files from.

From this information you should be able to check the other Apps and copy (Duplicate) the sounds and put them in a place iChat can see them.

Ok.
Go to Applications and click once on iChat to highlight it
Now Right Click or use the Control Key and Click at the same time on the App.
This will bring up a menu.
Select "Show Package Contents"
This will open a new window with a folder called "Contents"
Open that.
Open the Resources folder.
The Sounds are in here. Depending how you Mac is set up to view the files in here the sound files may not be together.
Go to the Menu bar and View.
Select "Arrange By" and the sub menu "Kind" This should put the sound files together at the top.

Now highlight all the sound files.
Go to the menu bar and select the File menu and then Duplicate.
Click anywhere in the window to deselect the items.

Now for where they would go if they were other sound files.
iChat reads the folder you are in now for sounds.
it also read the OS System folder (and a folder in there) for the System Sounds.
It also reads a folder called Sounds in your Home folder.

Go to the Finder menu bar and select New Window from the file menu.
Click on your Little house icon on the left.
Open the Library folder on the right.
Find the Sounds folder and open it. (It will be empty most likely)

Now go back to the original window.
highlight one sound file that says Copy in the name.
Hold the Shift key and highlight the others one at a time.
Now drag those from the first window to the second (Sounds Folder)

Search the other Apps Show Contents for their Sounds and drag them to your Sounds Folder.
They will now be seen by iChat.

iChat can play sounds that are .AIFF files at the 44100Khz setting.

The AIM application has the files in a slightly different place.
You need to do the Show Package bit and then the folder has two item on show. Choose Contents.
Then Resources
Then Sounds. (Don't forget to Duplicate them or AIM will not play them if you just move them)

I am sure AdiumX will be similar enough for this to work for you.

Hi,

More.

I also have Proteus.

This stores sounds in Soundpacks These look like Lego bricks but can be opened by the Show Package method.

So this is Show package on the App.
Navigate to Contents/Plugins/Default.soundpack
Do another Show Package.

Obviously other sounds can be found this way and Duplicated to the Sounds file in your Home folder.

IF you move the files to /System/Library/Sounds they will be available to everyone and as System Alert sounds.

thanks for the help so far. i still have a problem though. the aim sounds are 8 bit and ichat sounds are 16 bit. i haven't checked their sampling rates but i would think they're different. in ichat i'm able to view the aim sounds which i've moved to ichat sounds, however when i select them to import to ichat sounds they don't do anything. is there anywhere i can download the aim sound sets that are the right sampling rate? or be able to "get" them another way?

thanks for the help so far
